Slovenicum Chamber orchestra was founded in 1989 by Uroš Lajovic, the conductor and artistic director of the ensemble. The orchestra consisted of carefully selected musicians from Ljubljana’s major orchestras - the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, the RTV Symphony Orchestra and the Opera orchestra of Slovenian National Theatre. Their main work was dedicated to the performance practice of the 18th century music. The concerts of the ensemble in the first season comprised of Mozart and Hyden cycles. With this programme the orchestra had a large number of concerts in Slovenia and abroad. They have made many radio and disc recordings. More than 90 soloists, both Slovenian and foreign, performed with the Slovenicum. The orchestra regularly performed commissioned work by Slovenian composers.
